Getting Started: The Road to Entrepreneurship
Why do you want to be an entrepreneur? This session is an overview of
the series; discussing the various rungs of the ladder that must be
grasped to become an entrepreneur.
Marketing for Continual Growth
In order to be profitable you must sell your products/services! In this
session we teach how to develop your product, price, promotion and
placement strategies; to identify your market segment; and reach your
potential customer through effective marketing and advertising.
Developing Your Product: Price and Presentation
Have you priced your product correctly? What about packaging? These
factors can make or break you. If your product is improperly priced you
will never succeed, if your packaging doesn’t work you are presenting
the wrong image.
Critical Decisions: Legal Structures & Tax Issues for Small
Businesses
You must create the legal structure that is best for you and your
business. Our experts will explain the various legal structures and
how to decide which is best for you.
Risk Management Basics: Insurance & Product Liability
If you are going into business you will need to have not only insurance
but also risk mitigation mechanisms in place; you should have insurance
to protect yourself and your business. Our expert will discuss the
various policies and give you a range of costs.
From Home to Commercial Space
What do you need to do before you get out of your home and work in a
commercial space to produce your delicious food? This is a step-by-step
outline so that your first session is a winner. The last hour will be a
tour of the Kitchen facilities of the Artisan Baking Center and a
discussion of each piece of equipment and how that will help your
production.
Human Resources: Hiring & Managing Employees
As you grow you need employees, how will you manage them and what are
the rules? Good employee management can maximize productivity,
efficiency and loyalty so that you can run a more profitable business.

learn how lenders make decisions and where you can access capital

We have taken you through all the steps and you have actually formed a
business plan in your notes…Now you will learn how to prepare the
document that can not only chart your way to success but also open doors
to lenders, investors and other associates.

Graduation Ceremony & Trade show
Have you questions? Wouldn’t you like to spend some quality private
time with certain industry professionals? This is the session for that.
There will be a variety of experts available to answer your questions on
a one-on-one basis. You will also be given an opportunity to strut your
stuff by showcasing your product in a mini-tradeshow to your fellow
students and our guests who might be council people, the press and noted
members of the business community.

The LaGuardia Community College SBDC is not only a sponsor and educator
for the Entrepreneurship Workshop Series but also a provider of
one-on-one business management counseling that is FREE and open to the
public. Bring all your questions and they will point you in the right
direction. This can be done any time during the seminar or after it has
ended.

Travel Directions to workshop location
Subway: Take the V or the R to 36th Street Station, walk north one block
along Northern Blvd. to triangle intersection of 37th Street and 37th
Ave., make a left through the triangle onto 37th Street. Walk a half a
block. The Center is on the left with the green & white awning.
By LIRR: Take the LIRR to the Woodside station, transfer to the local
number 7 subway, towards Flushing. Go two stops to 74th-Broadway,
transfer to the V or the R train towards Manhattan. Take that to the
36th Street Station. The Center is on the left with the green & white
awning.
Driving Direction: The Center main entrance is located at 36-46 37th
Street half a block north of the intersection with Northern Boulevard.
Our parking lot is located at our rear entrance at 36th Street, between
36th and 37th Avenues. From Long Island & Queens: Take the Long Island
Expressway west and exit at Van Dam Street. Make a right at the light
and go to Queens Blvd. where you make a left; make a right at the
Northern Blvd. intersection and drive to 37th Street where you make a
left. Our lot is around the block on 36th Street. From the Bronx:
Triboro Bridge, exit at 31st Street (first exit on the bridge) where you
make a right. Drive to 36th Avenue and make a left. Go to 36th Street,
make a right, our parking lot is on your left, partially down the block.
From Brooklyn: Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, north, to Northern Blvd.
exit. Make a left at the light and go to 36th Ave. make a left on 36th
Street, the parking lot is on your left, partially down the block. From
Manhattan: Take the 59th Bridge 21st Street. Go north along 21st Street
until 36th Avenue, make a right. Go to 36th Street, make a right, our
parking lot is on your left, partially down the block.
