The LaGuardia Small Business Transportation Resource Center

LaGuardia Community College’s Division of Adult and Continuing Education is the new host for the Small Business Transportation Resource Center (SBTRC) funded through a cooperative agreement with the Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT)

The program provides small businesses, especially those qualifying as disadvantaged businesses or owned by minorities, women, and service-disabled veterans, with a wide range of services and information to increase and improve their participation in federal, state and local DOT contracts and subcontracts.

The Northeast SBTRC at LaGuardia Community College provides technical assistance and training to small and disadvantaged business owners in the Northeastern states of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Maine.  Special emphasis will be placed on assisting small businesses in becoming certified disadvantaged businesses.

One of the most popular requests from business owners is for assistance with developing a corporate capability statement.  The statement is a one page document that serves as the business’ résumé.  It is particularly useful for business owners or their representatives as a marketing tool when introducing the company to the purchasing agents at business expos or matchmaking events.

The Northeast SBTRC also assists small businesses with the DOT’s Short Term Lending Program, a guarantee loan program for businesses as they work on DOT-funded and DOT-assisted transportation related contracts at the local, state, and federal levels.

The SBTRC is also a good source of upcoming procurement opportunities from transportation related agencies.
